The Hong Kong Coaching Committee, a joint committee of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute, was established in July 1991. It promote the standard and recognition of coaches of all levels through formulating short and long term coach development strategies and accreditation programmes in partnership with various National Sports Associations. (press here for Terms of Reference). Currently, 49 National Sports Associations have joined the Hong Kong Coaching Committee Programme. The Committee has been the Category A member of the International Council for Coaching Excellence since 1999.
For over 30 years, The HKCC has been running the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme, which has been well received by coaches from various levels. The Programme adopts a multi-layered approach to coach education, supporting the development of new and experienced coaches, from grassroots to elite sport levels, under the supervision of the Hong Kong Coaching Committee. Over 147,000 coaches have benefited as of 1st April, 2024. Since its inception, the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme has been continuously enhanced to match the rapid development of Hong Kong sports.
The Coach Education Department, based at the Hong Kong Sports Institute since the inception of the Hong Kong Coaching Committee, is its executive arm to implement the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme. It has established a comprehensive range of programmes, projects and services to meet the needs of coaches, athletes and local sports development.
Starting in November 2015, the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme has been funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
